"The Question to be pondered over "

"Do you ask a male cricketer who their favourite female player is? " - Mithali Raj

" The Question to be pondered over "
                                          - G M K

When Mithali Dorai Raj of Rajasthan was recently asked who her favourite male cricketer was her prompt reply was "Do you ask the same question to a male cricketer ? Do you ask them who their favourite female cricketer is ? " The question sounded outrageous and the query is testimony to the lack of popularity of women's cricket in India.

The Captain of Indian Women Cricket team, Mithali Raj become the first female cricketer to surpass 6000 runs in ODIs. She was the first to score seven consecutive half centuries in One day Internationals. She echoes the discrimination faced by women in the society.  The question echoes, the real picture of gender equality, it resonates the fact that women cricketers are deprived of the publicity got to a male cricketer ....

It is a grim reality that there is a huge disparity in terms of payment. An 'A' Grade Cricketer of Women Cricket gets less than one-third of 'C' Grade Men's Cricketer.(₹ 15 lakh against 50 lakhs). Moreover Women's Cricket lacks regular television coverage. There is no brand promotion. Despite of all, Women's Cricket is a long way off what women 's tennis or badminton have achieved so far..

Men and women should be treated equal.. Women are the embodiments of love , sacrifice, humility and devotion. They should be treated with paramount respect. It is our prime responsibility to encourage the talented women players and can scale the heights of success in the aforementioned....

Education is the overall development of a human being.Education opens a new horizon to the children. It shapes their mind and broadens their views. It helps to remove social taboos. It gives a bird's eye view knowledge about everything. Education does not merely mean a good degree from any great university.

Big Project Aksharalaksham (2017-18)

Education also means how we respond or react to situations. Education from schools and colleges is important because it helps us how to live in a society and respect one another. It helps us to obey rules of the society. As Swami Vivekananda said, "Education is the manifestation of the perfection already existing in men."  The main objective of education is to create good individuals. But nowadays it simply aims in producing better results and forgets to teach students values in lifes. There are lots of poor children in the society who are deprived of education.

Lack of money snatches away the world of knowledge from the poor children . They have tremendous potentialities but opportunities are sadly denied to them. Hence Aksharalaksham spreads light on the life of poor students , to guide them to the world of books. Let us spread the message of Education & Reading among students....

May 5 2017,

It was a great day when we were chosen for a great endeavor. It was a great blessing and honour that we, the eleven friends from 11 Zones were made the State Leaders of Akhila Kerala Balajanasakhyam for the year 2017-18. It is the Balajanasakhyam camps which helped us in finding ourselves. It nurtured our leadership skills,  sharpened our creative competence and gifted us with many friends all across the State.

Akhila Kerala Balajanasakhyam, an initiative of Malayala Manorama is the largest children's organization in Asia. It was founded by Late K.C Mamman Mappila on May 29, 1929. Kerala was not yet born when the Balajanasakhyam was formed. K M Mathew, being the first member of Balajanasakhyam played a notable role in nurturing this great organization.

Balajanasakhyam, with its motto 'We Serve' spearheaded the path of charitable activities and worked for the welfare of the downtrodden and poor in the society. Mahatma Gandhi, Father of our Nation was deeply impressed by the humanitarian activities rendered by Balajanasakhyam during the freedom struggle and he appreciated it in his article ' Want of Thoroughness' in the Harijan Newspaper dated.January 30, 1937.

Balajanasakhyam has initiated appreciable services in the face of natural calamities. It has offered unrelenting  services to the society, mending the children to confront the challenges of the present world. It is much appreciable for donating handful of leaders to the nation. Dr.PC Alexander, C.M Stephen, Dr.D Babu Paul, Dr.Alexander Jacob IPS, Divya S Iyer IAS, Renu Raj, Lipin Raj, Gopinad Muthukad are some of the great personalities who are the products of Akhila Kerala Balajanasakhyam.

Oommen Chandy, the former Chief Minister of Kerala was the former State President of Akhila Kerala Balajanasakhyam during the year 1960-61. Ramesh Chennithala, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Kanam Rajendran, Chintha Jerome, Vellapally Nadeshan etc are the notable aluminis of Balajanasakhyam.

Leaders are not born, they are made. Balajanasakhyam played remarkable role in finding ourselves. It has been empowering children with leadership qualities and life skills for the last 90 years. It has always opened a new horizon of opportunities and makes the children socially conscious imbibing human values.

Drug abuse which is excessive use of drugs has become a  chronic disease that can damage a person’s physical and mental health. The misuse of drugs among children is increasing at an alarming rate. The continuous use of drugs makes impossible for him/ her to resist them. It results in lack of concentration, loneliness, anxiety and violence. It makes them vulnerable to serious diseases. The misuse of drugs is usually marked when children navigates from childhood to adulthood. Hence, the adolescent substance use creates tremendous social problems.

Peer pressure, family problems, curiosity, ignorance, to make feel  'grown up', media influence, etc are main reasons behind use of drugs among children. The sensitivity of the issue must be recognized and one must not use any kind of drugs. The need of the hour is a crusade, a battle against illicit drug usage, which threatens the  existence of stable families and society. Its our moral responsibility to address the great social issue. We, the children of Akhila Kerala Balajanasakhyam feel extremely honoured and humbled in joining our hands together for the effective implementation of Sakhyam activities.

Most blessed to deliver Manorama Balajanasakhyam Manifesto (Anti Drug Year) 2017-18
